To counter the energy crisis, the EU Commission presented the REPowerEU strategy, whose measures are based on energy saving, diversification of supply and acceleration of the green transition. The planned investments would amount to approximately 210 billion euros.
Within the RePowerEU plan, the European Commission has included the proposal to make photovoltaic panels mandatory for all public and commercial buildings from 2026 onwards, once a specific size has been exceeded. The panels will subsequently become mandatory for all residential buildings from 2030.
Renewables
The measure would be part of the projects to extend the share of electricity produced from renewable sources, the target of which would be raised from 40 to 45% by 2030 (today the share is 22%). To facilitate the installation of wind and photovoltaic systems, the European Commission in agreement with the Member States will define specific geographical areas where to install.
hydrogen
Not only photovoltaics and solar panels, the plan also aims at an increase in the production of renewable hydrogen in the European Union. In fact, in the new REPowerEU plan, it was decided to double the target for 2030 and to produce 10 million tons of renewable hydrogen every year in the European Union.
